From afar this staircase appears to lead down into a vortex, a black hole which seems mysteriously deep until one gets closer. The railings which circle its perimeter suggest that it may be dangerous near the edge and looking down a the dark shading glass there is a hint of obscurity, covering what is down below.
This dark void sits in the middle of a walkway with buildings flanking it on either side. It is near an important law firm and bank and people are constantly walking past, towards and away from the hole as if drawn to it. Everyone walking past will see it and consider walking down, whether it's a tourist stopping to take a photo or a local businessman going to have a snack in the food court. The ambiguity of what lies below will attract many people down those stairs.
At the foot of the stair one can see down below but their view is still blocked by the shading tinted glass which extends around the curving space. This encourages the visitor to walk down the stairs just to see where the tunnel down below leads and what lies below the tinted glass.
I immagine that on a hot summer's day the shade provided by the space below would provide a place for people to relax and escape from the outside bussle and harsh weather.
Once down the stairs the shopping circle reveals itself. Looking up at the sky there are large buildings rising up on either side which impose on the viewer a feeling of insignificance.
